在Chicago, Obama 的演说同样让人印象深刻， “To those Americans whose support I have yet to earn — I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your president too”.

My friends, we have — we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly.

A little while ago, I had the honor of calling Senator Barack Obama to congratulate him.

(BOOING)

Please.

To congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love.

In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving.

This is an historic election, and I recognize the special significance it has for African-Americans and for the special pride that must be theirs tonight.

I’ve always believed that America offers opportunities to all who have the industry and will to seize it. Senator Obama believes that, too.

But we both recognize that, though we have come a long way from the old injustices that once stained our nation’s reputation and denied some Americans the full blessings of American citizenship, the memory of them still had the power to wound.

A century ago, President Theodore Roosevelt’s invitation of Booker T. Washington to dine at the White House was taken as an outrage in many quarters.

America today is a world away from the cruel and frightful bigotry of that time. There is no better evidence of this than the election of an African-American to the presidency of the United States.

Let there be no reason now…

 08年大选年，年初到年末美国国内最重要的政治话题。推荐一下《财经》的大选专题。

似乎每年老蒲的讲话都会在网上热传。仔细读来，都是些很基本的做科学甚至是做人的道理，朴素却受用。想起07年11月在San Diego的Neuroscience Conference亲见老浦，作为invited speaker在Chinese Neuroscientist Social上用英文做了个即兴发言，也是颇受欢迎的。找到一张照片，如下。

各位老师、各位同学、各位来宾: 早上好！这是神经所第八届年会。在此我们欢迎科大的老师和同学来参加今年的年会，这是神经所今年与科大的第二场交流，今年五月长假期间有些组长已经到科大 去举行过一次报告会了，以后我们要继续这样的交流，对双方都很有好处。今天在场的还有我们新聘的研究组组长们, 包括从英国曼彻斯特大学来的王伟、苏塞克斯大学的吴思、还有神经所晋升为组长的章晓辉和黄福德。另外还有两位来应聘组长的：德州大学的孙坚元、冷泉港实验 室的胡海岚。他们借年会的机会来感受神经所的情况，我们也要借这个机会来给他们留下全面的印象。

Hmm… the way I tie a tie~

The Pratt knot is unique in that its starting position is ‘reverse side out’. It uses less length than the Half Windsor or Windsor knots, and so is well suited to shorter ties. Unlike the Four in Hand knot, the Pratt method produces a symmetrical knot. It is of medium thickness.

大凡上映的热片，我一般都不会跟风似的去先睹为快。《变形金刚》国内都开始放了我居然还没去看，不知道是固执还是老土。反倒是在豆瓣网上找到一部很受推荐的片子，载了一看，还算不错。如下。

剧情简介
老左(左长旺，黄秋生饰)是香港爱国戏院的电影放映员，这是一个提前四十年回归的人，也是一个在金钱至上的香港社会特立独行的人。他哼唱的是《歌唱祖国》、《智取威虎山》，他看的是《左传》、《毛泽东选集》。别人“向钱看”，老左则是“向前看”。
老左一生追求他的爱国理想，最大的梦想就是回祖国看看天安门，看看祖国美好的河山。然而天意弄人，四十年来，他的梦想却一直未能如愿。
六七十年代，是香港电影的梦幻时代，也是红极一时的明星——夏梦的时代。年轻的老左成为了爱国戏院的放映员，当时的爱国人士备受英政府的打击，这让老左 明白了“爱国是要付出代价的”。老左的老婆秀英(毛舜筠饰)结交了好姐妹彩霞(鲍起静饰)，彩霞的老公陆佑(岑建勋饰)看不起老左和爱国人士，本来可以成 为好朋友的老左和陆佑从此开始，较了一辈子的劲儿。
八十年代，李连杰和《少林寺》红遍内地和香港，成为华人的共同记忆。此时，内地实行改革开 放，中英就香港回归问题开始接触，老左离他的爱国梦想又近了一步。他成为第一批拿到回乡证的香港人，他打算和老婆秀英来一次内地的“蜜月”之行，却因为要 给儿子左忠(郑中基饰)攒学费、给内地亲人捐款而用掉了本打算旅行用的钱。 Read the rest of this entry »
